‘I’m always blown away by the Ultimate (baselayer), but for an athlete doing what we do, the Ice Weave is maybe on par with it’ - Glenn Irwin

Zerofit athlete Glenn Irwin has fixed his eyes firmly on the prize of a maiden Bennetts British Superbikes title as Round 1 of the new season gets underway at Circuito de Navarra in Spain this weekend.

Always searching for performance benefits from new items on the bike, the 34-year-old has applied the same logic to his baselayer apparel choice for this year's championship.

He has worked his way through the Zerofit Collection of baselayers in recent months including the Heatrub UltimateHeatrub Move and Cold Skin, as well as the Ice Weave which he will rely on to keep perspiration at bay during the heat of competition.

‘It's been my second weekend testing wearing the Zerofit baselayers, and this weekend I’m in the Ice Weave. The stuff is absolutely brilliant and what impresses me most is how it keeps me cool because we work really, really hard on these bikes, and the sweat management is really impressive.

‘So, I’m not coming in (off the track) and feeling a super wet baselayer. I’m always blown away by the performance of the Ultimate (baselayer), but for an athlete doing what we do, the Ice Weave is maybe on par with it,’ said the 34-year-old who has also collaborated with Zerofit on a new ZFGI Merchandise Collection which is now available at www.zerofit.co.uk.

Speaking to content creator Millie James from the Motorsports and Mimosas podcast, Glenn offered his assessment of how testing had gone this week.

‘We got two and a half days testing done, and it was so good to be back on my Hager PBM Ducati here in Navarra, which is pretty much a new circuit for us. Lap time was good, pace was good, and we have a preferred option on a number of items we tried, and we got one more item squeezed in at the end. It started to rain but we managed to get another lap and it was enough to tell me that that item was also a step better. It’s exciting,’ he said.

Zerofit will also be represented across the BSB Support Series, with Sam Laffins stepping up from Junior Superstock level to compete for G&S Racing Kawasaki in the Quattro Group British Supersport Championship.

While Glenn will race in Zerofit baselayers for the first time this year, Sam has already felt the performance benefits on offer having recorded three victories in last year’s championship, finishing fifth overall.

Youngster Peter Willis is set for another year aiming for success in the R&G British Talent Cup with the Microlise Cresswell Racing team, and will be working between the Move, Cold Skin and Ice Weave baselayers depending on the temperature and conditions.

You can watch Round 1 of the BSB Championship this weekend live on Eurosport and discovery+, who will be broadcasting every race in 2024.
