Cold Skin Baselayer Enjoys Breakthrough Summer As Today’s Golfer Highlights Innovation Discovery
The Cold Skin Baselayer is making friends and influencing golfers all over the world, and now Europe’s leading publication Today’s Golfer has experienced just how cool the product keeps players in temperatures up to 40° Celsius.
Nearly 20 years ago, entrepreneur Mr Koji Higashi founded the Zerofit brand with the Heatrub Ultimate Baselayer, a product designed to keep him - and millions of golfers in Japan - warmer than ever during the colder months.
But allowing golfers to play in cool comfort during extremely hot summers - and protected from the sun’s harmful rays - was also a key concern to Mr Higashi and his designers. The Cold Skin does just that, and in 2020 Zerofit Europe brought it to the UK.

‘Golfers are becoming more aware of the need for skin protection, but applying sun cream before a round and then again halfway through isn’t always the priority it should be,’ said Michael Morton, Zerofit Europe MD.
‘The Cold Skin has a maximum UPF50+ rating, so golfers are covered in even the warmest conditions, and because you can actually feel the coolness of the fabric, we are seeing this unprecedented level of sales for the summer-ready baselayer,’ he added.
The latest incarnation of the baselayer features ‘Cold-to-Touch’ (CTT) Technology - innovated exclusively for the Cold Skin - which does the heavy lifting when it comes to converting some of the most sceptical of customers. Cold from the moment it touches your skin, the baselayer technology utilises innovative fibres that are engineered to absorb heat and spread it over the body surface.

This quickly delivers an efficient cooling feeling and the thin and lightweight fabric disperses sweat rapidly, creating a quick dry feeling without stress on the skin or causing a restriction of movement.
‘As soon as someone tries on the Heatrub Ultimate Baselayer, they can feel the product work. It’s the first thing they say to us, that they can feel the warmth instantly. And it’s the same with the Cold Skin - it works immediately, and continues to perform all day on the course,’ said Mr Morton.
‘But some people need a more scientific explanation, which is why we sent it to the Kaken Test Centre in Japan. We wanted to have a number to stand by that highlighted just how cold it was. The result? The Cold Skin is three times colder than a standard competitor product,’ he added.
This Q-max Analysis shows just how cool the surface of the Cold Skin fabric is. The higher the Q-max value, the cooler the fabric.
If the Q-max value of a product is 0.1 W/cm2 or more, it is recognised as having ‘cool contact performance’. The Cold Skin recorded a value of 0.298W/cm2 – whereas a standard competitor product would typically score below 0.1 W/cm2, a measurement method defined by Japanese Industrial Standards.

‘It really has been so encouraging to see golfers embrace this product - our business is baselayers, and we believe we have something completely new for the industry, although there is still a huge amount of work to do in terms of educating golfers that a summer baselayer is a brilliant idea.
‘We are also seeing huge demand from the team at Zerofit USA, who are based just outside San Diego - almost the perfect spot for the Cold Skin to work its magic. We have just entered a partnership with a distributor out in the UAE too - if the Cold Skin works for golfers out there, it will work for golfers everywhere,’ concluded Mr Morton.
