David Jones and Blood Cancer UK Golf Day Raises Over £100,000

Zerofit was delighted to supply a number of Cold Weather baselayers as prizes to support the inaugural David Jones and Blood Cancer UK Golf Day which has raised more than £100,000 for the charity.

The event, which took place at the prestigious Grove Resort just north of London, was attended by a host of former players and media personalities including ex Liverpool and Scotland midfielder Graeme Souness, Chelsea and England captain John Terry, Arsenal and England striker Alan Smith and Jones’ Sky Sports presenter colleague Simon Thomas, whose wife sadly passed away after suffering from blood cancer.

The money raised will fund a year’s trial into acute myeloid leukaemia (AML).

‘I’ll never forget the moment I found out that my friend and Sky Colleague, Simon Thomas, lost his lovely wife Gemma, the mother of his child, to blood cancer. Devastatingly, she was diagnosed at the start of the week and gone by the end of it. I couldn’t believe an illness could be so cruel and quick, leaving Simon and Ethan without her and hardly any time to understand what was happening, let alone say goodbye.

‘In many ways, at the time, Simon and I were living parallel lives. We were doing the same job for Sky, both travelling up and down the country to spend our weekends at football grounds rather than with our families. Both of us had the one son – his, Ethan, a year older than my Oskar.

‘Blood cancer tore right into the heart of Simon’s family, and I knew then I had to do something to help raise vital funds for Blood Cancer UK’s lifesaving research, to make sure no more children are left without their mother,’ he added.
